I had dinner at Sir Elly's on my last night in Shanghai, alone, at a window table. I got there early enough to watch the sky go from blue to black and Pudong light up across the river. I started with the Ricciola. Dry-aged hamachi in a clear tomato broth with cured peach, and I added the caviar. The aging gives the fish a density you don't usually get with hamachi. The broth was so light it almost wasn't there. The peach sounded strange to me on the menu and it turned out to be the best part of the plate. Then the Piccione. Chongming pigeon with cured cherry, radicchio and balsamic. I ordered it because I wanted something local, and I did not expect an Italian kitchen to handle it this well. The breast came out rosy and rich, and the bitterness of the radicchio kept it from being too much. Lemon tart to finish. Mango, citrus, honey. Clean and magnificently sour, but not too sweet, which was exactly right after the pigeon. The service deserves its own paragraph. Nothing was rushed. My courses were paced so I could sit and look out the window in between, which I appreciated more than I expected to. Both the chef and the restaurant manager came out to say hello. I was one person eating alone on a quiet Sunday night and they treated it like it mattered. I noticed, and I have not stopped thinking about it. I travel for work and I eat a lot of hotel restaurant meals. This was not that. If you go, ask for a window and get there before sunset.
We rarely leave negative reviews, but this was one of the most disappointing fine dining experiences we have ever had. We chose Sir Elly’s expecting exceptional food to match its reputation and premium prices. Instead, every single dish—from the appetizers to the desserts—was a disappointment. The food lacked flavour, refinement and balance. We genuinely did not enjoy a single course. The bill came to over RMB 4,000 for four people, which made the experience even more frustrating. At this price point, we expected outstanding cuisine. Instead, we left feeling that we had paid an extraordinary amount for a meal that was simply not good. What surprised us even more was that the restaurant was almost empty during dinner service. Looking back, we understand why. The view is undeniably beautiful, but a spectacular location cannot make up for such poor food. Sadly, this felt like a complete waste of money, and we would not recommend Sir Elly’s to anyone looking for a memorable dining experience.

Another gem on the Bund! Sophisticated tasting menu with high quality ingredients prepared well by the kitchen. The venue is very well designed with impressive ceiling hight, very tranquil setting and a very nice view over Pudong. The meal started with four adorable canapés with inspiration from different places where chef had lived and worked. On through the tasting journey and ending with desserts as well as mignardises. Wine pairings were top notch. A few minor bumps in service is what could take a Michelin star off the table for this restaurant, but otherwise I think they have excellent chances. Well worth a visit! Oh, and don’t forget to enjoy the excellent rooftop after the meal!

I’m currently staying at this hotel, and I must say it’s one of the best restaurants I’ve ever visited and I usually go to some of the best in the world. The food is exquisite and exotic, the atmosphere luxurious, the service excellent, and the view absolutely impressive. Highly recommended!

This place was awesome. It was raising on the rooftop but they had bar tables inside that were perfect to enjoy the view. Extremely high end and worth the money. Drinks and service were all on point. Highly recommended.
Amazing view of the Shanghai bund! Drinks were very creative, and staff were attentive. If you’re staying at Peninsula Shanghai or want to host some friends, this is the place to do it.
