Beautiful, almost 360-degree view – rooftop bar in the heart of Makati:
I visited the "I'm Hotel" and its sky bar on the 36th floor (called Antidote).
The location:
The "I'm Hotel" with its Antidote sky bar is located in Makati's entertainment district and is a welcome exception to the many run-down bars and clubs, some with very opaque pricing policies.
The design:
Even the entrance is beautiful. You walk through the bar inside, which features large jellyfish aquariums (unfortunately with very cloudy glass), across an unused terrace, and up neon-lit steps (Instagrammable) to the actual rooftop. Here you'll find a large, square bar (without chairs). Surrounding it are plenty of high chairs and high tables, offering an almost 360-degree view of the city.
On one side of the rooftop terrace is a green wall with a pink neon sign that reads "we all look at the same sky."
Atmosphere & Staff:
During my visits, the rooftop terrace was always very busy. Nevertheless, the staff was very friendly and attentive. It's a real plus that there's no fuss at reception and no separate entrance fee for walk-in guests.
I found that very pleasant.
... Pros/Cons:
+ You can order directly from your seat from the extensive food and drink menu using a QR code.
+ The prices are absolutely OK.
+ No smoking (the smoking area is located one floor below in a secluded corner with warning signs about smoking).
+ The restrooms with full glass walls and a view of Makati at night are fun.
- Unfortunately, the concrete supports of the building completely obstruct the view of one side of Makati.
- I found the music (especially when going through the interior to the rooftop) extremely loud, which is why I wore noise-canceling earbuds every time.
- Opinions may vary on the music selection. However, given the clientele, the era of rap and hip-hop is probably long gone. This makes conversation difficult (for me) and ruins the lovely atmosphere of this rooftop bar.
Conclusion:
This rooftop bar with its beautiful ambiance is excellent, and the view is among the best Makati has to offer. has something to offer. Anyone looking for a (nearly) relaxed atmosphere should definitely check this place out!
